Equipment

  • Measuring Spoons
  • Glass Bowl
  • Small Cooking Pot
  • Mason Jar any size is fine
  • Wooden or Metal Spoon
  • Lip Balm Containers or Tubes
  • Lip Balm Tray Kit optional

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 2 tbsp Shea Butter
  • 2 tbsp Beeswax Pellets
  • 1 tsp Almond Oil can use Olive Oil instead
  • ¼ tsp Vitamin E Oil
  • 5-10 drops Essential Oils optional

Instructions

  • Start by measuring out all your ingredients. If you're using a lip balm tray kit, place the tubes into the tray now.
  • Fill the cooking pot halfway with water and place it over medium-low heat. Put the glass bowl on top of the pot to create a double boiler.
  • Add the coconut oil, shea butter, beeswax, almond oil, and vitamin E oil into the bowl, stirring occasionally until everything has fully melted (about 10 minutes).
  • Once everything has melted into a smooth liquid, remove the bowl from the heat.
  • Optional: Add your chosen essential oils to the mixture and stir well.
  • Carefully pour the melted mixture into a mason jar to cool for a couple of minutes. Then, pour the liquid into your lip balm tubes or containers. If you're using a tray kit, you can simply pour it into each tube.
  • Allow the lip balm to cool and harden for about an hour. Once set, cap the tubes and store them in a cool, dry place.

Notes

  • Storage: Keep your lip balm in a cool, dry spot, and it should last for several months.
  • Customization: If you’d like to change up the consistency, try swapping the shea butter for cocoa butter or mango butter. These will give your lip balm a slightly different texture but still offer plenty of moisture.
  • Essential Oils: Feel free to experiment with different essential oil combinations! Lavender and peppermint are classics, but citrus oils like lemon or orange add a fresh twist, while rose adds a subtle floral note. You can even create your own signature scent.
